The Kind of Rest That Leaves You Tired

This week’s mirror isn’t about stopping. It’s about how you stop.

Is the way I am resting actually helping me recover, or helping me avoid?

Pause before answering.

Look for:

  • passive scrolling
  • constant stimulation
  • task switching
  • avoidance disguised as rest

Rest is often positioned as the solution.

Take a break.
Slow down.
Step away.

But not all rest restores energy.

Some forms of rest simply delay what your mind has been trying to process.

Scrolling.
Switching tasks.
Filling silence with input.

These can feel like rest.

But they often keep the nervous system lightly engaged instead of allowing it to reset.

True rest creates space.

Not a distraction.

This week’s mirror:
Is my current way of resting actually helping me recover?

Sit with it for a moment.

Try one form of intentional rest today:

  • quiet without input
  • stepping away without distraction
  • allowing stillness without filling it

Notice the difference.

Rest restores when your mind is allowed to settle, not just shift.
